The very first homeopathic remedies were tested more than 200 years ago on a group of physicians, roped in by the founder of homeopathy Samuel Hahnemann who included himself among the test subjects.
Homeopathic medicine has continued to evolve and groups of volunteers, usually practicing and student homeopaths, still test new remedies today, keeping a careful note of symptoms over a period of weeks or months. These investigations are known as provings.
The manufacture of all homeopathic medicines is a highly specialist process that takes place in a handful of homeopathic pharmacies, all regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council.
